Sixth Formers are encouraged to play a full part in the life of the school. This makes school life more enjoyable and worthwhile, and a lively person, with a wide range of interests, is often at an advantage when applying to higher education or for a job. Sixth Formers have the opportunity to serve the school and to develop their leadership qualities by becoming prefects. Sixth Formers also have the opportunity to be part of the Drama Society. There is a major school production each year, and in March 2008 the school, in collaboration with the girls school next door, performed "little Shop of Horrors" to sell out audiences (LSOH Review).Students are also able to play an instrument in the school orchestra, participate in a major sport such as rugby, hockey or cricket, play a minor sport (e.g. squash or badminton), or take part in debates and join the quiz team or chess club.
College week each June is a full four-day training programme to assist with the process of applying to Higher Education. It consists of visits to Universities, visiting speakers coming to school from Universities and gap year organisations, full training on the UCAS web based application software and also links to the Merseyside Higher Education Conference held at Liverpool University. There is a separate programme of conferences, university visits and mock interviews for those students applying to Oxford or Cambridge.
The school also hosts a Careers convention every two years. This involves a large number of employers and employer organisations visiting the school, and offers the opportunity for students and parents to discuss career plans in detail, often with those who are involved in the recruitment process.
Young Enterprise, The Duke of Edinburgh Programmes and Helping to raise money for the school's nominated charity are just a few of the other activities you can become involved in as a WGS Sixth Former.
Fact:
"The school has a large Sports Hall, Fitness Room and fully equipped Gymnasium to which Sixth Form students have exclusive access on Wednesday afternoons".
