Examination Board:AQA-Biology Specification A (modular) 3413.
Approximately two thirds of the year group sit the separate sciences courses, taking 3 GCSE's in total. One third take the double award. Both courses follow the modular scheme, with 30% of the marks being awarded in year 10. The end examination is worth 50%, with the remainder (20%) allocated to the internally assessed investigation skills. Ideas and evidence are assessed in the end exam, with 5% of the final mark allocated to these components.
The course encourages pupils to acquire a systematic body of knowledge, and the skills needed to apply this in new and changing situations within a range of domestic, industrial and environmental contexts. ICT is used and encouraged where appropriate.
Course Modules include: Humans as Organisms, Maintenance of Life, Moving and Feeding and Environmental Inheritance.
