Business Studies (KS4)
The aim of this course is to develop a knowledge and understanding of the way in which businesses operate, and of the wider environment in which they exist. Areas covered include: Marketing, Production, Industrial Relations, Accountancy and the Economy.
The course is assessed by final written examination and by coursework. The use of ICT will be an important part of the course. Teaching techniques include the use of simulations, group discussions and role- play. Where possible, specialist outside speakers will be invited into school, to provide their views on a range of Business & Enterprise related topics.
In Year 10, students will be able to apply some of the business concepts and techniques already studied via a mini-enterprise activity. In previous years, industrial visits have been arranged, and will continue to play an important role within the GCSE programme.
The course is not intended to be vocational, but does provide an excellent insight into the world of work. It also provides a sound basis for study of this subject, and other related subjects such as Economics, at a higher level.
