As you walk around Wirral Grammar School for Boys, it becomes obvious that the students are more than just part of a school - they are part of a community. Everyone contributes, whether it is in the classroom, on the sports field or on the stage. It is this, in my opinion, which is one of the school's greatest strengths, making it more than just a place to learn. It is an experience to develop as students, and also as individuals.
The school is based on academic excellence, and all boys are encouraged to learn and take an interest in their studies through the work of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers. The staff are very supportive and always on hand to offer extra help (or more challenging material!) as required. This enables you to work to the best of your ability and to enjoy yourself whilst achieving.
There is also an abundance of extra-curricular clubs and societies at lunchtimes and after school. There's something for everyone, and as well as being great fun, these provide a fantastic opportunity to make new friends and learn new skills. The sport and music facilities are particularly impressive, and there are many sports teams with which to get involved. This means that you can play at your own level, either just playing with friends or working towards representing your school.
The recent designation as a specialist school in Business & Enterprise has brought many exciting improvements, and there will be more to come. There are many enterprising opportunities and students have organised business events to help charity and local schools, promoting citizenship and also giving something back to the local community. It has been good to be involved in fundraising for a variety of charities, raising thousands of pounds each year.
I have spent six happy years at Wirral Grammar School for Boys thanks to the committed staff and the unique opportunities that I have been offered. It is expected that students will work hard, and the resulting achievements and personal development remain with you for life.
