Music
Key Stage 3
Meet the Staff

Music (KS3):
At Key Stage 3 pupils will become familiar with the concepts of rhythm and pitch through a variety of activities. They are shown how to write down music using traditional as well as other forms of notation. They are also given the opportunity to become familiar with the various functions of the electronic keyboard, and these skills are then used as the basis for composition work both individually and in groups.
Pupils continue to develop an awareness and understanding of the elements of music, such as scales and intervals. They listen to a variety of examples of recorded music to identify ways in which specific instruments, both individually and in groups, can be used expressively. They are also encouraged to explore these concepts more fully during composition work.
Pupils continue to develop their understanding and enjoyment of music by concentrating on the concept of structure, both in traditional, contemporary and world music. They have the opportunity to apply these concepts in their own composition work, which they are able to evaluate with an increasingly accurate and appropriate musical vocabulary.
