The building programme, we are pleased to say, is currently on schedule. At the end of January the tendering process took place, with 6 construction companies having been invited to tender.
Over February half-term, the sixth form common room was converted into 2 classrooms for the duration of the building programme , this is to provide additional teaching space to replace classrooms that have been removed in the early stages of development.
During the Easter holidays the construction firm responsible for the project established a base within the building compound. As a result we have a new temporary car park, which will be utilised until the building work has been completed.
The estimated completion date for the new build is currently the Spring term 2008. This will hopefully be followed by a phased occupancy of the building. As soon as departments have moved into their new accommodation, the vacated classrooms in the main building will be refurbished for other departments to relocate.
This is an exciting phase of the schools history, and the 3.9 million pounds project will result in new facilities which include: Music teaching rooms , a recording studio, Music practice rooms, Mathematics and Business rooms, an ICT suite and new biology labs.
We will keep you up-dated on progress throughout the building programme.
