PSE (KS4):
"We live in an era of rapid and large scale change: change in personal beliefs and aspirations, inter-personal relationships, work, leisure, community and family life, industrial and commercial growth and decay, technological advance, and media influence. Students need appropriate knowledge and skills to deal with this change. Personal qualities like those of objective thinking, flexibility, adaptability and a positive attitude to life are vital. Fundamentally, the success of an individual's personal relationship with others will affect that individual's happiness and adequacy in every sphere of life. Personal and social education seeks to address these needs by providing the opportunities and experiences which allow each pupil to gain knowledge and develop skills and attitudes that will help their personal development and fulfilment, and prepare them to become responsible, caring and informed members of society. "
This statement on Personal and Social Education forms the major theme of the course. A structured and sequential modular approach, building on the foundation of earlier years is used. Mixed form groups study modules on multi-cultural education, life skills, health and fitness, careers, environmental issues, economic literacy and citizenship.
