School Profile
Wirral Grammar School for Boys is a Foundation School; this means that we operate with a higher degree of independence than many other state schools. There are currently 1022 boys at the school, which is an ideal size in terms of ensuring that each boy is known as an individual while at the same time being large enough to provide a wide range of courses and additional, extra-curricular activities.

Our choice of specialism is 'Business and Enterprise'. This is an ideal focus for a school like ours. Boys typically go on to pursue successful careers in leading and shaping both public and private organisations. During a typical school career, a pupil at WGS will be able to participate in wide-ranging activities of an enterprising nature including outdoor pursuits, small business organisation and charity fund-raising events.

We also have an extensive Community Programme involving work with partner primary schools, adult groups and local businesses. An activity that has been hugely successful in the local and wider community has involved our boys working with primary school children helping them to set up healthy eating tuck shops in their own schools.

Excellent academic results and Business & Enterprise activities such as those mentioned, have helped to make WGS one of the most successful B&E Schools in the country, and has established a lead role in the North West region.

Finally, we are at a very exciting phase of our school's history. In the next 12 months the school will undergo a huge transformation with the completion of a 3.9 million pounds project which includes new buildings and the refurbishment of existing rooms. As a result of this tremendous development, it would seem likely that future pupils of the school will be making use of mobile, wireless technology; laptops and Pocket PC's as tools to aid effective learning.
