Admissions for September 2011
Admissions 2011
The process for managing our admissions for September 2011 is now underway.
Parents of boys who have taken the test, whether in a primary school or at Wirral Grammar School will be notified of their choice of school on 1st March 2011.
After 1st March 2011, the next steps are:
- If your son took the test, achieved the standard for the Grammar School but you have been allocated another school, this will be because you made that school a higher preference OR because the school is full after the admission criteria have been applied.
- In past years we have had some places available after the allocations have been made. In the last couple of years we have seen a slight increase in the demand for places which has meant that we have either been full or over-subscribed. The reality is that rolls are falling, however, there has been growing demand for places from further afield.
- During March and April our intake numbers for September 2011 will fluctuate as parents accept or decline places in other schools. If, on the 1st March the school is over subscribed then it is possible that places could become available but this would very much depend on by how many the school is oversubscribed
- A school is defined as being oversubscribed when it is full. A school’s capacity is defined by the resources available including the number and size of classrooms, the number of specialist areas (e.g. Science Labs, ICT rooms etc). To exceed our admissions limit would be detrimental to pupils’ education.
- If the school has reached the admission limit and places are unavailable, parents may make an appeal and any decision to admit will be made independently of the school. Please note that there can be no guarantee of places.
- If your son did not achieve the standard for the Grammar School having taken the test, it is not possible for the school to re-assess until the Spring Term of 2012. If it is your intention that your son takes this test, please notify Mrs Tanya Fry and she will keep you informed regarding testing arrangements and dates. Please note that, if the school is full, your son may still take the test but a place could not be offered.
- The Appeals Process is for parents who feel that their son’s performance in the December tests was disadvantaged by unique personal circumstances or because a place has not been offered because the school is full. Requests for appeals are directed to the Chairperson of the Appeals Panel; this is an independent body and it has the final say in appeal decisions. Please note the Wirral LA will advise you of the closing date for appeals requests. For information about appeals, you should contact the Local Authority on Telephone: 606 2020
- If your son did not take the 11+ test or if you are moving into the area, please contact Mrs Tanya Fry for admissions advice.
If you have been offered a place at Wirral Grammar School for your son for September 2011 we will contact you very shortly with details of arrangements for our Welcome Evening in the Summer Term and for starting school.
