Community

Wirral Grammar School for Boys is a school located at the heart of a vibrant and supportive community, and as such we are working hard to develop effective working relationships with partner primary and secondary schools, local employers and members of the local and wider community such as adult learners.

Focusing on Business & Enterprise, we have helped 26 Wirral schools to set up and maintain healthy tuck shops, developed a community website for local businesses and provided ICT related short courses to groups of adult learners.

New projects have included the development of a school community website which is currently being created and maintained by Year 10 students from Wirral Grammar School for Boys and a group of Year 6 pupils from Brackenwood Junior School and the introduction of an after-school Science club for Year 5 pupils.

Finally, at the end of this academic year, we have invited all Year 6 pupils from our four partner primary schools to take part in an event that we have called "Primary Enterprise Day" which, as well as helping to develop the ICT, Maths and Enterprise skills of the pupils involved, should also go some considerable way to easing their transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3.

Lifelong Learning for Adults

Here at WGSB, we believe that learning is a lifelong activity, particularly as the world has moved from an Industrial age into an Information age. Today there is an increasing emphasis on the flexibility and adaptability of individuals, and skills, knowledge and understanding must therefore be updated on a regular basis.

Education is not simply something that happens between the ages of 4 and 22. It is something that has to be a lifelong process that will contribute not only to educational development, but also to personal and social development for those involved in the process.

As a Business & Enterprise school, we have designed a number of short courses focusing on the areas of Maths, ICT and of course Business. Our courses address specific needs of the local community, and adult learners have enjoyed developing new skills in Digital Photography, Business Basics and Internet use, and we are looking to expand our provision throughout the next academic year (2008/2009).
