Berlin Trip 2009

Berlin Trip 2009

Posted on: 03.06.2009

Just prior to the end of last half term, 61 boys from Years 9 and 10 accompanied by 6 staff visited the German capital Berlin on a History trip.

The trip was directly related to the boys’ curriculum in covering the Nazi period, World War Two and the Cold War. They saw the remains of the Berlin Wall, built in 1961; the former concentration camp at Sachsenhausen where over 50,000 inmates were killed; a trip to the Wannsee conference villa where the decision to begin the Holocaust was taken, and the Olympic Stadium where in 1936 the black American Jesse Owens won four gold medals much to Hitler’s distaste!

The boys enjoyed the trip and were fulfilled in their experiences of Berlin and what stories it has to tell. Many thanks to them for their first class behaviour and to the staff for giving up of their time to go on this valuable historical experience.
