Primary Enterprise Final-Winners Announced

Posted on: 20.01.2009
The first ever Primary Enterprise Challenge final took place today (20th January) with 8 Wirral Primary Schools competing for 3 trophies. The teams involved had all taken part in a challenge called ' Be Enterprising with a Tenner ' during National Enterprise Week in November, and today's finalists had to deliver a 5 minute presentation to a panel of judges who were looking for the ideas that were: - Profitable - Had Social Impact - Sustainable The presentations were excellent and a real credit to the schools involved who were: Brackenwood Junior School ( Pet Pals ) This group organised a day that other children could 'pet' a range of animals which included a python and a guinea pig! They charged 50p to pet an animal and £1 to have a photograph taken with it, and in total they raised £83.00, a truly great effort. Higher Bebington Junior School ( Eat Up ) The winning team here devised a recipe book ( Eat Up ) aimed at getting families cooking healthy meals together. The idea was sustainable and could be adapted to suit different seasons and special occasions etc. They made £61.71p profit in total. Lingham Primary School ( Juice on the Loose ) The children bought and sold a range of fruit juices that would contribute to the ' five a day ' healthy eating model. The profit raised was an excellent £25.08p. Stanton Road Primary School ( Bright Sparks ) This group made their money by designing and selling a range of badges and bookmarks. These items were then sold to children and staff during break times and they made a profit of £42.00. St Peter's CE Primary School, Heswall ( The Juicy Juice Bar Team ) The children from St Peter's decided to sell Capri-Sun drinks. They carried out some Internet research to get the best price and sold them at a profit of 35p per drink. By the end of the week they had raised an impressive £65. Thornton Hough Primary School ( Wishy Washy ) The Thornton Hough team organised a superb marketing campaign and with donations from local businesses managed to raise a massive £127.90p in just one day washing vehicles that included cars, tractors and even a double-decker bus! Woodchurch Road Primary School ( The Big Blue Badge Company ) Finally the Woodchurch Road children decided to make and sell anti-bullying badges and to donate any profit made to Childline. They came up with a realistic business plan, advertised their product and sold 91 badges raising £45.50p in the process. After deliberating, the judges had no hesitation in awarding the trophies to the following : - Most Profit Raised- Thornton Hough ( Wishy Washy ) - Most Social Impact- Woodchurch Road ( The Big Blue Badge Company ) - Most Sustainable Idea- Higher Bebington Junior School ( Eat Up ) Congratulations to ALL those taking part today and we look forward to working with you again throughout this years Enterprise Week in November.
