School News & FeaturesICT and Computing Study Experience to DisneylandPosted on: 24.02.2010 ICT and Computing Study Experience to Disneyland® Resort Paris 2010 On Wednesday 3rd February 17 Year 13 ICT and Computing students embarked on their study experience trip to Disneyland® Resort Paris accompanied by Miss Moore and Mr O’Gorman. We departed from school at 5:20am and reached Disney’s® Hotel Cheyenne at 6pm that evening but spirits were high. We checked in then had dinner before attending our first education session at the Gaumont cinema in Disney® Village accompanied by several schools. The first session looked at the use of ICT in the design and development of rollercoaster’s found in the park itself, ‘Space Mountain Mission 2 and RocknRoller’ and the Audio Animatronics used throughout the park, this was an initial insight into the creative career opportunities pupils could aspire to alongside widening their awareness of the uses of ICT whilst they were in the park. “It was good to see that ICT was used in more or less everything in the park, a real eye opener for a career in ICT.” Daniel Corless U64 Of to an early start on day two, after breakfast we all headed to our second education session which looked at how ICT is used in the Disney® Resort hotels and shops from the booking of customers to the sale of souvenirs (the applications of ICT), and how ICT security is implemented throughout the resort and organisation. We were joined by Pierre Hestir, the IT security officer at the resort who answered some key questions about ICT security. Then the boys were free to explore Disneyland® Park and Walt Disney® Studios Park to see the use of ICT firsthand before attending the last education session. “The trip was very useful towards our course, while at the same time having fun analysing the endless ICT systems at Disney.” Timothy Munns U64 In the final session the boys were shown how the parade floats they would have seen in the park that day were designed using Computer Aided Design and the use of computer graphics for signage design used throughout the park. This was another real eye-opener to the extensive range of careers in ICT and Computing in the real world. On 5th February after breakfast and a last chance to purchase some souvenirs we departed on our journey back to the Wirral, with a wealth of new knowledge, and an enjoyable experience. More on what the boys thought of the trip: “The role of ICT in Disney was a very good application of what we have learnt over the course because of the vast use of ICT that Disney uses in such a big multinational company.” Gregg Biggs U64 “A very informative trip, whilst being fun at the same time.” Harry Burnett U67 “I found the experience very beneficial and it proved to be an integral part of my learning.” Matthew Biggs U65 “I thought that the content of the lectures was very informative and influential for examples if needed for our exam questions.” Mike Jones U68 “The trip was very influential into the university course I have chosen as elements of computer science are used in the animatronics and AutoCAD used in the design. The day in Disneyland was a good experience.” Luke Walker U68 Miss K Moore ICT Teacher
