History and Politics Visit to Parliament

History and Politics Visit to Parliament

Posted on: 08.02.2011

On 28th January  19 6th Form boys studying History and Politics travelled to London and visited Parlliament together with Mrs Ahern and Mr Ronayne. They were taken on a tour of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords and later attended a workshop about different democratic voting systems including the Alternative Vote method which may result in a national Referendum later this year.

Some of the boys with their Parliamentary guide inside the Palace of Westminister.

Our local MP Alison McGovern was unable to meet the boys at Parliament but agreed to come into the school the following week and speak to the History and Politics group together with a Year 9 History set. She answered many questions from the boys including her views on Academy status, current economic issues and the perception of Merseyside outside of the area. Afterwards she was presented with a picture of old-boy Harold Wilson by Ben Sharrock.
