What Makes Us Different?
Fact:
"Students have access to a staffed library containing around 10,000 books, computers and Internet facilities"
Students are assisted to understand their potential right from the outset. Targets are set in the first week of the Lower Sixth and progress against these targets is assessed at regular intervals. A team of sixteen Tutors, in addition to the Head of Sixth Form and two Deputies, are responsible for the pastoral care and academic progress of all students.
For the majority of students, the main course will consist of three A level subjects of their choice plus A level General Studies. We also offer a programme which includes a Key Skills course for all lower sixth students.
General Studies and Key Skills will add breadth to the curriculum to offset the relatively specialised programme of three A level subjects. There may be the opportunity for some students to study for an additional AS level in Sociology or Critical Thinking.
Thus, at the end of their programme of study, most students will have had the opportunity to obtain an A level certificate in four subjects including General Studies and gain some expertise in a Key Skill. These are the qualifications which will be most important for those seeking entry to university and for those hoping to find employment at this stage.
Each Wednesday afternoon all students take part in a games/activities session. The range of options is constantly being expanded and the afternoon represents not only a pleasant contrast to academic studies, but also an opportunity to develop new skills and interests.
Games fixtures for the school's major sports-rugby, hockey and cricket are often organised on a Wednesday afternoon, but in addition there are other activities such as golf, and any of the many sports offered at the Bebington Oval Sports Centre
