Headteacher's Welcome

Through our website we aim to reflect some aspects of life at Wirral Grammar School. For parents and pupils the pages contain valuable, practical, information including letters, details of events, etc. For those who are visiting with a view to finding out about our school there is a wealth of information that I hope conveys a picture of a flourishing school community.

Wirral Grammar School is a well ordered, friendly and supportive community. We believe that pupils who are happy and well cared for achieve to the best of their ability. As you would expect, examination results are outstanding. Typically, all GCSE pupils attain a minimum of five or more high grade passes, including English and Maths. In recent years, well over half of all GCSE grades have been at the top grades A* or A. The vast majority of pupils stay on into our sixth form; almost all of our Upper Sixth leavers go on to higher education at competitive universities.

Our school was founded in 1931. We are a state Grammar School, not a fee-paying school. Entry into Year 7 is through 11+ selection. Entry into all other years is through an assessment that is managed by the school. Further information relating to admissions can be found on this website.

We pride ourselves in having a close working relationship with parents. Each boy’s success is dependent on the strength of that partnership between school and home. We are very achievement focussed. Each boy is set challenging but realistic targets and we monitor performance against these targets each term. Life at Wirral Grammar School is about so much more than gaining superb exam results. Visits, overseas excursions, musical events, wide ranging participation in sport and enterprise and charity fund-raising activities are all important aspects of school life.

Our Prospectus and Parent Handbook provide details about every aspect of school life at our school. We have a separate Sixth Form Prospectus for those interested in joining our Sixth Form from other schools.

Of course, reading literature and browsing through pages of a website is no substitute for coming along to see us. We are pleased to show parents and prospective pupils around. Visits can be arranged by contacting the school.
