Head Boy's Welcome Message

Dear Parents and Prospective Students,

I would like to take this opportunity to present a student’s perspective of the school which I have come to know and love, albeit with a number of detentions en route.

Wirral Grammar School for Boys is an institution of the highest academic calibre; boys are, by definition, among the most intellectually able nationwide. This, however, is not to say that either pupils or teachers are in any sense pretentious, ostentatious or at all unpleasant. In reality, students of Wirral Grammar are characterised by a modesty which is the inevitable result of the school’s social diversity. Similarly, teachers are willing to provide additional support for boys from all ranges of the academic spectrum, as I can testify from personal experience. Importantly, the low turnover of staff is a key measure of the school’s quality; once here, teachers often choose to stay.

Extracurricular activities are also a major feature of school life. Boys are encouraged to partake in as wide an array of activities as possible. I, for instance, have found particular enjoyment in rugby and drama. This has allowed me to take advantage of numerous school trips and foreign visits, perhaps most notably a recent three-week tour of Australia, and has enriched my experience of the school immeasurably. Many other boys discover a passion for music or the creative arts, and thus benefit from the opportunities afforded to them as a result of this. Indeed, the extracurricular benefits of the school cannot be overstated; they ensure that the alumni of Wirral Grammar are well-rounded as opposed to merely intelligent.

I wish you all the best and hope you too are able to walk the hallowed (and newly refurbished) corridors of Wirral Grammar in the future.
