Head of Sixth Form's Welcome Message

The aim at Wirral Grammar School is for every Sixth Form Student to achieve to the best of their abilities. As with most areas of life, opportunity brings with it responibility, and your place in the Sixth Form is conditional upon you making satisfactory progress, complying with the rules and respecting the needs of other students. Smart business dress is part of the ethos of the Sixth Form and central to the creation of a professional atmosphere.

Our focus in recent years has been on identifying student potential and then tracking student progress carefully to ensure that whenever possible, ambitions and potential are realised.

"Sixth form provision is good and outstanding in some respects. Students are very well motivated, keen to achieve well and take pride in their work. Relationships between staff and students are very good. The school ensures that students' personal development is outstanding and the quality of pastoral care and support for careers and higher education is excellent. Students enjoy the sixth form and value the opportunities they have to take responsibility; for example, in supporting younger students, organising assemblies and their work leading fundraising and charitable events."

Procedures for target setting, review and academic guidance are very well developed and their use is a major factor in students' achievements. We also value students as individuals and although we see academic performance as central, there is a wealth of extra-curricular activity to develop the individual.

Many students are attracted to our Sixth Form because of the excellent performance of our students at A level however Sixth Form is not just about A level results and the need to add value. Students also need time to be challenged in other ways, to grow spiritually, to make friends and be able to consider wider social issues in a sensible and mature way.

A Wirral Grammar School student should be educated in a way that leaves him with many laudable and lasting qualities.
