Sociology  (KS5): Examination Board AQA (AS)

Two themes run through the course - Socialisation(culture and identity) and Social Differentiation (power and stratification), and students are introduced to some of the main theoretical issues and concepts in modern Sociology.

The module content is as follows:

Module 1: Families & Households; Health; Mass Media
Module 2: Education; Wealth, Poverty & Welfare; Work
                  & Leisure
Module 3: Sociological Research Methods

Sociology offers students a chance to study relevant and challenging academic discipline, which encourages them to question their assumptions, to think critically and to participate in the radical analysis of the nature of British society. The course provides opportunities to develop and display many of the Key Skills, and will be very useful in the Social Science components of the General Studies examination.

Teaching staff will use a variety of methods including discussion and supported independent study.
There are 3 examination papers (summer lower sixth)
