Welcome to the Sociology Department
Sociology is offered at Wirral Grammar School to AS level only. This means that it is an addition to the standard curriculum of 3 A levels plus General Studies, rather than an alternative to the main AS/A2 options. The course runs in the lower sixth only, and it is not normally possible to proceed to A2 in this subject.
The course is likely to appeal to students looking for an extension to their main options, possibly providing a contrast (to pure science, for example) or a complement to their other studies (such as Politics, Law or Economics). Students aiming for competitive courses at University might feel that the greater breadth of study offers an opportunity to make a strong impression in their application.
Students will study Sociology in addition to the General Studies programme, and will take the General Studies AS examination at the end of the year. The option to take Sociology is subject to timetable limitations.
