On joining the Sixth Form, all students are allocated to a tutor group, each consisting of approximately 15 students. Students will stay in the same group, with the same form tutor, throughout the two years. The form tutor will be the first person to consult on pastoral or administrative matters. Form tutors will also regularly review progress against targets with students, on a one-to-one basis when needed.
The Sixth Form Council convenes bi-termly. The Headteacher and the Head of Sixth Form meet a representative from each Sixth Form tutor group to discuss items of mutual interest.
There are 40 lessons per week, 8 each day. Each main subject is given 8 periods per week. In addition each student spends Wednesday afternoons in games or associated activities, and there are also General Studies/Key Skills periods each week.There are also opportunities to use the ICT suites during study periods. At present we are looking into the possible introduction of a laptop leasing scheme.
The school is fortunate in having the services of 2 part-time librarians. The library offers a substantial stock of books directly relevant to AS and A level work. Quality newspapers and a range of magazines are also provided. There are facilities for viewing videos and suitable material has been provided by each department. The CD ROM equipment offers excellent research facilities in the fields of current affairs, general knowledge and higher education. Access to the Internet is available in the ICT suites and in the library. There are comprehensive programmes to assist with major decisions concerning career choice and entry into higher or further education. Sixth Form students also have access to a learning mentor who can assist with pastoral and social issues.
