Training Tomorrow's Engineers
On Monday 28th January a group of 10 Year 9 boys were provided with the opportunity to experience being an Engineer Apprentice in order to gain an insight into the opportunities that are available within the Engineering industry.

The students were initially briefed about the importance of Health & Safety before being issued with the appropriate safety equipment and clothing. Half of the group were then involved in the assembly of a large electric motor, and were asked to complete some control circuitry whilst the other half worked as a team to build a pipe rig from a steel pipe.On completion the rig was filled with water and pressure tested. Following lunch the groups changed over so that they could all experience both activities.

The day helped to highlight the skills shortfall in the chemical, pharmaceutical and other process indistries, which of course are important industries here on the Wirral. The boys were also made aware that young people are encouraged to seriously consider the vocational route to these job opportunities, and that learners can still go onto degree level if they choose.
