Healthy Tuck Shops

Our 2006/2007 Young Enterprise Team were all instrumental in initially helping 6 primary schools on the Wirral to set up and maintain a healthy tuck shop.
With the help of Terrie Johnson from Wallasey based company 'Fruit to Suit' the boys initially introduced the idea during a 30 minute school assembly where they delivered a humorous, yet informative presentation centred around the ideas behind a tuck shop. We then allocated 2 boys to each school to act as Business Advisers and Mentors to school pupils involved in the project. The boys visited the school and worked alongside the children helping them to create spreadsheets to aid control, open email accounts to place orders and create impressive posters and flyers to advertise the shop.
Fruit to Suit supply the schools with fresh fruit and vacuum packed fruit as well as providing advice on fruit in season, nutritional information and in some cases a uniform for pupils taking part.
WGSB also purchased trolleys for the schools so that the produce could be sold during break times out in the yard.
The project has proved a huge success, and we hope that the schools will continue to sustain the idea well into the future. (The photographs were taken during the Higher Bebington project.)
In 2007/2008 we are now helping a further 22 Wirral Primary Schools with this venture.
