WELCOME TOWirral Grammar School for Boys
Sapientia Ianua Vitae – Wisdom is the Gateway to Life
Each boy is encouraged to maximise his academic potential. A diverse extra-curricular programme provides scope for individual character development. We say that life at WGSB is about both working hard and playing hard. Our website provides both factual information and support. If you are at the initial stage of choosing a school for your son, you are welcome to come and see us at work. We are always pleased to see parents and prospective pupils and show them the school in action.
Most year eleven students progress into our sixth form, although a small number do leave us to pursue alternative or vocational courses that are offered in alternative environments. We also welcome a number of external students who wish to join our sixth form, and these come from a wide geographical area, as far afield as Chester and Liverpool. We value each of these students equally and are keen for all to quickly settle into our practices and meet our expectations.
We are developing our outreach programme to enable us to broaden our appeal to students from a larger catchment area and to those attending 11-16 schools who may not have previously considered continuing their education here.
We encourage any student considering applying to WGSB6 to contact WGSB6Admissions@wirralgrammarboys.com to arrange a bespoke tour of our facilities and a chance to meet students and teachers. We hope this personalised approach will provide a valuable and informative opportunity to learn more about our community.

Physical Education and Games play a major role within our school, and extra-curricular sport is an area in which we pride ourselves. Our ethos is to provide a breadth of excellent sporting opportunities for as many students as possible to help them develop a life-long love of sport, regardless of the level they decide to play.
In school we have opportunities for students to enjoy sport at a social level right through to competitive regional and national competitions where we have seen plenty of success over many years. Countless students continue to play sport beyond their school years, some at university and many who carry on helping to swell the playing numbers at local clubs. Occasionally, some students go on to perform at the highest level within their chosen sport thanks in part to their experience here at WGSB.
