Dear parents / Carers and Y11 students,
Please find below a collection of informative presentations and documents which will allow you to find out more about our A-level curriculum and life in the sixth form. These resources provide an insight into course content, entry requirements, staffing, controlled assessment components and the experiences of current students.
This follows on from the issuing of mock examination results to our current Y11 students and a series of assembly and marketplace activities held towards the end of our autumn term and the beginning of our spring term. Internal students will be required to submit their original options choices by Friday 28th January 2022, via their SIMS app. (Details sent via Sims App Tuesday 11th January 2022). External applicants will be contacted with details of how to register interest in subject choices once their application forms have been received.
Please note that these are only an early indication of preferences, and flexibility will be provided as appropriate. In addition, offer letters will be issued to all Y11 students, internal and external, later in spring term; these will provide details of our entrance requirements. (Details of entrance requirements can also be found here: Sixth Form).
Heads of department have also produced a FAQ document which students are encouraged to read in order to address any remaining questions. Any questions that students still wish to discuss with heads of departments following this date may be addressed informally at a mutually convenient time and external applicants are invited to send questions to heads of departments via schooloffice@wirralgrammarboys.com.
We are hopeful that the information students will have received by the time they access this information will complement the guidance offered through a series of in-school events, including presentations from heads of departments teaching subjects new at A-level and a marketplace activity. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that students wishing to take Mathematics at A-level are required to have a grade 7 at GCSE and that those considering Physics A-level are also advised to study Mathematics.
