Priority for entry is given to existing students in the school, but we also encourage applications from external applicants and welcome a number of new starters to our community each year.
Prospective external applicants are encouraged to register their interest via the Expression of Interest Form above. We also encourage any student considering applying to WGSB6 to contact WGSB6Admissions@wirralgrammarboys.com to arrange a bespoke tour of our facilities and the chance to meet students and teachers.
| Please note WGSB6 will not be accepting female students into our sixth form in September 2025. All female applicants are asked to make their applications through Wirral Grammar School for Girls, where you will be able to access all the benefits of our partnership working. |
We hold a Sixth Form Open Evening each autumn; details will be posted on our website.
If applicants decide our entrance criteria are attainable, the next step is to complete an application form, see above. Preference will be given to those applications received by the end of January each year, but forms will be accepted beyond that date.
Conditional offer letters will be issued to applicants following receipt of application forms.
Please note that current WGSB students are not required to complete the Expression of Interest Form or an application form. Conditional offer letters will be issued to internal Y11 students towards the end of the autumn term.
All WGSB6 places will be confirmed on results day and external applicants are invited to attend with evidence of their examination results.
Our admissions criteria are as follows:
As a guide, students typically enter the Sixth Form with a minimum of 6 GCSE grades at 9-5, or the equivalent, including English and Mathematics. Our prime concern is for students to embark on courses that are appropriate for their ability. A grade 6 or 7 is considered a solid starting point to continue a subject to A level. All requests for admission to sixth form are considered on an individual basis.
